Today's horoscope:
Expect today to be very busy, full of stimulation of all kinds, Rachel. Social gatherings or group events could result in intellectual discussions about spiritual matters, especially those from distant lands. You and your friends might find yourselves discussing the possibility of travel to some of these countries, although no definite plans are likely to be made at this time. You'll probably also want to spend some time in the course of the day running, biking, or otherwise exercising.
Guess what I actually have planned for today? Cleaning. Mom's decided to switch around everyone's room again, and she's made a huge mess of Brian's stuff (which is a huge mess anyway), and gone to a picnic at her school and left me to clean everything up. So that's what I'm doing all today. Shows how much you know, horoscope.
Anyway, for lack of things to do, Mom and I went to get lots of movies yesterday. The Blockbuster's near us is really, really lousy. Terrible selection. Luckily, there's another Blockbuster's a mere three miles away. Movies we got:
"The Jerk," with Steve Martin (I happen to like Steve Martin). Mom said it was hilarious and that it would cheer me up. It worked quite well. I was giggling like an idiot through the whole thing.
"Back to School," with Rodney Dangerfield. Meh. I don't like Rodney Dangerfield that much. Fast-forwarded to the party scene with Oingo Boingo (Danny looks like he's having fun, at least).
"The Shining," with Jack Nicholson--haven't watched this one yet, but probably will tonight. Mom says it's the scariest movie she's ever seen. I generally don't like movie versions of Stephen King books, but we'll see. Careful with that axe, Eugene...
"Scanners," by David Lynch (eta: Actually Cronenberg, silly me). Been looking for this one. Planning to watch it tonight. :rubs hands together with glee: HEAD EXPLODY.
Also, finally got to the comic store and bought some new die. Eleven little d6s and four d4s. I figure that should cover it. Sadly, I didn't get anything else--Mom dragged me out of the store while I was still trying to decide between three issues of "Transmetropolitan" and a Courtney Crumrin book. Then she gave me a lecture about being fiscally responsible and saving my money for ramen noodles and the electric bill. I hate how she makes me feel guilty for spending my own money. I know she's trying to get me to be frugal, but I already am frugal. I save up my money so that I can buy books. They're a desired end, not a useless expenditure. Honestly, can you possibly think of anything better I could be buying with my hard-earned dough? Small useless knickknacks? Clothes? Food? Come on, who needs food when you've got books?
I've been writing this tiny entry for two hours now. Christ, forget this. I'm going to go move shit around so it looks like I've been working, then sit down and make some tea and write a bit.
By the way: Still need three songs. Just songs. One each from three people, please? (ETA: Two, now! One! NONE LEFT HAHAHA) Not that I'll be able to post the drabbles until I get a new laptop--I found out today that I've got to get the same exact model as my old one in order for the hard drive to be physically transplanted. Gaaaaaaaaah. (Compaq Presario 2100. Where do I get one? God I hate technology right now, why can't we just all be telepaths and be connected by our minds?)

Date: 2005-08-13 12:05 am (UTC)The rest of the family sit around peacefully eating dinner. Outside the door, Homer chops his way in with an axe.
[Homer chops through door]
Homer: Heeeere's Johnny!
[camera pulls back to reveal empty room]
Homer: D'oh!
[Homer chops through another door]
Homer: Daaaaavid Letterman!
Abe: Hi David, I'm Grampa.
Homer: D'oh!
[Homer chops through another door]
Homer: [holding a ticking stopwatch] I'm Mike Wallace, I'm Morley

Rodney Dangerfield...
Date: 2005-08-12 09:54 pm (UTC)I like the Kubrick version of The Shining. It's very creepy. But it's not uber true to the book, which bothers me. That's the main thing though.
You should definitely get the Transmets. Transmet will sustain you even more than books and food.

Date: 2005-08-13 02:58 am (UTC)*is film snob knowledge elitist punk* uhh... yeah. Lynch is nice and all, but he ain't got nothin' on the Cronenberg. though Scanners isn't one of my favorite Cronenberg films.
but The Shining is easily the best thing Kubrick ever did.

Dem science majors had to tromp over dusty pavements ass-early across campus just so the prof could get them bird sightings at 4AM. No thanks for me then -- unless it's been an allnighter and the nearest burger joint is open at five.
