This is, quite seriously, the best I can do.

Went to fireworks yesterday in a city that I didn't know existed. Spent about 15 minutes just looking into people's faces and marveling at how many of them looked exactly the same and yet so different. Was yelled at by people I didn't know. Then I got bored, or overstimulated, or something, and stopped noticing anything at all.
Book recommendation: "Freakonomics." Will make you feel incredibly clever and incredibly dumb at the same time. Or maybe that's just me, because I'm lazy and my head feels like it is stuffed with cotton wool.

I have to go to work in about 10 minutes. I really, really don't want to. There's a new guy there who doesn't know how to do anything and keeps giving me the wrong trays and the manager blames me every time I wrap a sandwich that was supposed to be "for here." Also, apparently when I get stressed or unusually think-y, I start talking strangely. As such:

Me (cheerful, normal): "Hi!"
Customer: "What sizes y'all got?"
Me: "Large, medium, or small!" (practically shrieking with forced happy)
Customer: "Ah just wanna use the restroom."

Me (stressed, think-y): "Hellll-o."
Customer: "What sizes y'all got?"
Me: "Um, lll-arge, which is, uh, twelve in-ches...mediummmm, which is, um, six...nine, actually...smallll...which is six. Inches, I mean. Um...I think that's it."
Customer: "Anyone ever tell you ya kinda talk like the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons?"
Me: "WHATKINDOFSANDWICHWOULDYOULIKESIR."

Mom thinks I'm doing it on purpose to be annoying. Luckily, the managers never ever notice anything about their employees, and so I am safe as long as I stay in the back room washing dishes and sorting chips.

I <3 Freakonomics. I actually found it to be an enjoyably breezey read, but then I've spent ages trying to comprehend articles in Liberty and the Skeptical Enquirer, which tend to be rather dense.

Gotta love that chapter on how Roe vs. Wade contributed to the massive crime drop of the nineties, though. :D Mmm, politically incorrect, mmm.

Yeah--it was well-written, easy to understand. Which might be why, actually...explaining fairly sophisticated reasoning and research in such a breezy tone. Leads to the reader (me, anyway) going, "Jeez, why didn't I think of that? And why aren't I thinking of such things all the time?" (Answer: Because you are not Steven Levitt, you are only sitting in a Border's with crumbs on your shirt.)

I particularly liked the part about the Israeli daycare that charged fees for late pick-ups.

...would someone ask what sizes you have and then say he/she just wanted to use the bathroom? That is so weird.

And I don't think you're just being annoying. I used to get nervous all the time having to run a register and deal with people. There were times that no matter how nice I was to them, they were rude and snippy...or they were just weird. And not in the fun kind of weird either. 11pm in a pharmacy looking for needles kind of weird.

Why? I have absolutely no idea. People are, indeed, just weird. I get people who ask detailed questions about the menu items and then just order a drink. Or people who ask for something ludicrous like scrambled eggs or vodka.
It's mostly annoying when they're overly picky about the toppings, but that's not particularly unusual.

Yes they are. I think people probably feel like they should look halfway interested in the menu even though all they want is something to drink or to use the bathroom. Like maybe they were thinking of ordering something but then changed their minds and now just have to pee.

I can be picky about toppings...but mostly just that I don't want cheese. Even though I get weird looks for saying "no cheese," it's usually the pickiest I get at Quiznos. :)

Oh and meant to tell you earlier (in reply to your other post)...I like reading your lj for the aesthetics, too. Not just 'cuz I need Rachel news. :D

Ha. I am perfectly happy with people just using the bathroom and making no bones about it. Less work for me.
I just wish people would decide on toppings before they order. It's never trouble to leave off onions or something, just when you've already heaped onions onto a Double Onion Melt and then people say, "Oh, I didn't want onions! But I didn't bother to tell you!" People would be so much easier to handle if they would just think.

And I am glad you are among those who are into Rachel-aesthetics. I am preparing a long post involving aesthetics at the moment. Woohoo!

Yeah, I'm very quick to tell people what I do or don't want on something. Otherwise, it'd be my own damned fault for not getting what I want when I order food. Like at Taco Bell...no sour cream if the thing comes with it and extra cheese because they don't put enough there. Jeff and I actually got banned from one of the two Taco Bells in Santa Fe while we were there. All because I was picky about how I ordered things and they kept messing it up to where we, twice, had to ask for our money back because they could never get my order right.

Ooh! Long post! Yay!!!!
