I just got my absentee ballot in the mail yesterday. This was an incredible relief; I'd been hearing rumors that students were not allowed to vote, that if you had never voted before then you were not allowed to vote by absentee ballot, that they were cracking down on address changes...all sorts of stuff. The system works for once and I've got what I got.
I'd never heard of some of the candidates for some of the positions, so I did a little research (on the non-partisan ones, anyway). The League of Women Voters website rocks for good info on candidates.
I feel all warm and fuzzy now. I've done my civic duty and have more time to worry about my NaNoWriMo novel.

Whew...

...my friend [livejournal.com profile] owlkeeper will be relieved. Granted, she'll be talking to her polysci prof this week to make sure and find out how it's supposed to be done, but she was worried that she wouldn't get to absentee vote down here since this will be the first time she's ever gotten to vote. Her mom just wants her to go home to vote but she doesn't want to. Her attitude is that she lives down here now. But she'd also heard that they were trying to crack down on absentee voting for new voters. Blah. Whatever. Thankfully she'll be able to vote and not have to travel to do it.
