It's already Chanukah, so here's the Wishlist meme again...
First, the guidelines. Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your journal. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your journal so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. A GPS system. I am shit at directions, and even when I carefully write them down from Mapquest I tend to take wrong turns and I still get lost and can't find my way back. Sometimes around places I've been to a thousand times before. I think my dad is getting me this for Chanukah, though.
2. New bras. I've had the ones I have now for several years and they've gotten shredded. I'm hitting my mom up for this, since she actually likes to buy me clothing. It's a bonding thing, although it's not the greatest mother-daughter bonding strategy because she likes to go clothes shopping very early in the morning when I have had two hours of sleep and don't remember how to put on pants. But I will be getting bras.
3. An elliptical workout machine. I'm trying to keep fit and lose weight, and I've been doing this by taking walks, but it's gotten to be too cold outside to walk for more than a few minutes. But they're expensive :( Um, but yeah. If anyone in the area sees one on their local Freecycle list or knows of a neighbor who's trying to get rid of one for really cheap or anything, I will seriously drive a long way to get a secondhand one.
4. Fantômas books, particularly the one about his daughter. Fantômas was the first supervillain, and a Dadaist idol--he perpetrated staggering crimes and could disguise himself as anything, and the authors who wrote of his exploits made outlines and then wrote chapters without consulting each other as to continuity. Double whammy of weird.
5. Paid LJ time. BTW, anyone who buys me paid LJ time is allowed to request a special online favor. I will write a story for you or make you an icon or draw you some kind of ugly stick figure thing or take a picture of myself dancing like a monkey or whatever, name it! ETA: If this goes through, maybe I am not so much wanting the paid time.
6. Interesting teas. I've had friends occasionally send me little assortments of tea over the years, and I love this because I love tea. And now I have a little tea ball so I can try loose teas.
7. I honestly can't think of much else. I want an MP3 player but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. I'm just getting annoyed with the CDs I've been using to burn mixes for the car. They're Magnavox, and they suck. 75% of the CDs I burn come pre-skipped. DON'T BUY MAGNAVOX.
8. 'shrooms and/or acid. Don't send these to me through the mail, you will get arrested.
9. A cat. I can't have one in the apartment :( But I would like to be able to go cuddle one whenever I want.
10. Fun new music to check out, preferably with interesting instrumentals and lyrics I can understand. REC ME SHIT!

Date: 2009-12-15 11:42 am (UTC)If you ever go to Europe, go to a small specialist shop (not a supermarket) and take their advice. They will be right. They may even be civil to you if the fitter is about your size ;)

I love Amanda Palmer! I am even following her on Twitter. She and Neil are almost disgustingly cute.
