Whoa, it's been two weeks since I updated this thing. I think that is a record for me. I've just had a ton of homework. (I did take part in [livejournal.com profile] nextian's Exquisite Corpse chain, which was immensely fun--you can see the results here.)

Last weekend, [livejournal.com profile] benprime came all the way over from New Zealand to see me. (Well, not just to see me--he's doing a trip around America and parts of Canada, possibly followed by a trip to the U.K., and I hope it all goes very well.) We took a trip to a cider mill just outside of town, toured the campus and investigated the library, sampled the delicious cuisine of Mount Pleasant, experienced classic cinema in a grubby apartment setting ("Freaks," which inspired lively conversation, and "The Great Escape," which was depressing at the end--who knew?). I haven't had that much of a chance for continuous good long talk in ages, and I think my throat is still sore. Altogether excellent.

And then my brother's been coming up and crashing on the couch for assorted reasons, some of which pertain to dicey legal situations of major injustice. Whenever he comes over, he regales me with the most amazing stories about crazy neighbors and Taco Bells constantly being on fire and seeing the Angel of Death hitchhiking and being turned into a walking petri dish. True stories, I assume.

I've just written 21 pages of a Victorian humor-horror-fantasy pastiche about the effects of industrialism on a small British town and my hands hurt, so I imagine I'll be updating again in another two weeks or something.

Two of my favorite movies of all time. Damn it, I should have been running the projector. (I did, one summer in college, in a creaky old atticspace in the theater known to us stoner history grunts as the "John Wilkes Booth".)

Will refrain from any and all double-entendre jokes re: your pastiche viz: handjobs & S&M.

That sounds like an awesome job. "The Great Escape" was just on one of the classic movie channels. (So we couldn't escape the ending. Where everyone gets shot ;___; )

what how does that even make sense.

Yeah, but they all come back in the sequel. Right? Aw, fuck, I forgot. Hollywood used to have style and not have everything set up for a big goddamned shopping-mall merchandising clusterfuck. (Not that I don't buy the stuff same as you.)

It was quite an awesome job. Saw Shrek about eight thousand times, ditto Legally Blonde and Rat Race, and landed the last gal I've ever loved enough to want to stay with forever. Then fucking 9/11 happened.

Bollox.

*am silent for several long moments*

Anyhoo. Back to lighter stuff.

How does it not make sense? Manual labour . . . uptight Victoriana . . . masters beating the living shit out of chimbleysweeps . . .

Sure! When it's done, and when I'm done with the rest of my homework. I haven't even gotten around to that other novel you sent me a few months ago :(

oh. Okay. :/ didn't it have a different filename? I get confused.
But yeah, when homework is really and truly done for a good long chunk of time. Sorry I haven't yet...

Ah! I totally forgot to link to the exquisite corpse thing. This is what happens when I try and participate in something while close to a story deadline.
