kleenexwoman: A caricature of me looking future-y. (No more pain and no regrets.)

I've been having incredibly vivid dreams for the past week. Most of them are having to do with some kind of apocalypse. Usually nuclear bombs. I'm not sure what they mean, or if they mean anything at all. They're pretty much all the same; either there's a bomb about to drop, and I'm freaking out in the dream over it, or it's just dropped and I have to go out and scrounge for food among the wreckage. I usually manage to wake up right before the bomb actually drops, but the second time I had that one, it scared me so much that I kept glancing up at the sky, looking for airplanes or silver eggs.
Last night was interesting, but non-apocalyptic. I'd slept for five hours, messed around online for five hours, then went back to sleep for about ten hours.

"Here." The teacher handed me a paring knife and a plastic squeeze bottle.
I shook the bottle a little. The glittery goop in it barely moved. "What's this for?"
"The bottle is your allotment of magic," the teacher explained. "The paring knife is just in case the magic doesn't work for you."
"But I thought magic was supposed to work, no matter what..."
The teacher shrugged. "It fails sometimes. I mean, it's magic. Some people just can't use it." She led me to a white wooden door. "The...problem...you're supposed to take care of is behind here."
"Great. What is it?"
"Oh, just a little monster we found skulking around the halls. I'm sure you can handle it!" She clapped me on the shoulder. "Good luck!" She left, and I was alone in a perfectly white room with only a paring knife and a possibly-magical bottle of glittery goop to defend myself against a mysterious monster.
WHAM. "Fuck," I said. The monster was slamming itself against the door, trying to get out. I could see it rattling in its frame.
I squeezed a little of the glittery goop onto my finger and smeared it around the door frame. There was a little puff of green smoke, and the glitter disappeared. Everything was silent and still for about 30 seconds.
Then a long, clawed finger poked its way through the middle of the door.
"FUCK." I slashed at it with the paring knife. A curl of talon dropped onto the floor, but the finger itself seemed to be unharmed.
The finger withdrew, leaving a hole about the size of a penny. I bent down and peered through it, trying to see what I was up against.
It was a girl. She was wearing a flowered dress, and she had glossy dark hair pulled back into a ponytail. She was crouched on the floor, peering back at me. The only strange thing about her was her hands and feet, which were long, scaly, white, and had wicked talons on the end.
She glared at me, and hissed. I backed away, almost stumbling over my feet, just in time to see the door jump in its frame again. I looked around the room to see if there were any other weapons--nothing. The floor was completely bare, and I couldn't see another door. I'd been locked in.
Her hand smashed through the door, sending splinters of painted wood flying. "Oh God." I flung the bottle at her, hoping whatever magic was in it would somehow stun her. She whipped her head out of the way, and the bottle smashed against the far wall, the magical glitter splashing all over the wall.
It only took a few kicks for her to break the door down completely. By this time, I'd completely given up, and was yelling for the teacher.
I thought she was going to spring out at me and eat my face, but she just stood there, looking at me. I brought up the paring knife and waved it at her, hoping she'd get the hint and not attack me.
Instead, she moved her head to the side, the way a cobra does. I wasn't sure whether she was trying to hyponotize me or what. I started moving with her--it really was hypnotic. Maybe if she thought I was another lizard person, she wouldn't attack me...
Then she sprang across the room and jumped on me, but she didn't eat my face, just grabbed the front of my shirt and tried to rip it off...
...and then I woke up. Goddammit.

My roommate just handed me an envelope. "Oh, I forgot to give you this, but it was in the mailbox." Lovely. It's from Dad...
I have calling cards. Awright. I'm now able to call people on my own without having to beg my roomie to let me use her phone. Send me your phone numbers, guys. I don't have an address book.

And, [livejournal.com profile] lily_lemony...I got your magnets. SO. AWESOME. :D I am sticking one of these on every metal thing I can find in my room. My bedframe is now protected by Dr. Mordrid, watched over by Crispin Glover, and is authorized by Miskatonic University.

And hey, I was going to make a post about how I was afraid I was coming down with some kind of horrible disease, but I took some Airborne fizzy stuff and ate a bunch of oranges and now I'm totally OK. I think all that vitamin C clogged my system so much that germs can't get through. If I wake up tomorrow again sweating with the sheets off, a headache, and little "oooweeooo" sounds in my head, I'll know it didn't work.

Yeah, but in the war with Iran, even though the US will be the guys running through with guns blazing it will be Israel who have taken out their infrastructure.

Hey - I tried to leave you a comment on 'Darkvictoria', but it says the post has been taken down? Anyway, I wanted to recommend you a book for the topic you're studying. The book is called "Shattered Nerves" and as I recall it's edited by Sally Shuttleworth (watch out for anything by her - always relevant to Victoriana and very readable). It's a history of the phenomenon of mental illness and treatments, it's very enjoyable.

By the way, ignore that person-who-doesn't-live-up-to-their-username, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. Very rude and smug, and yet can't punctuate ;)

Good luck with the project!

Nothing after about 10 or 11. I occasionally go to dinner with Kathryn before then, but I don't know if she's around.
