A) A good idea with terrible execution or B) A bad idea with really good execution?
A) Obnoxious to read, mainly because you feel its a lost oppurtunity. I suppose you can always steal the idea and rewrite it better than the original author. B) I've recently read several boring, predictable fics on skyehawke that are extremely painful despite the lovely, descriptive and grammatical writing. It's like opening a present wrapped in linen, with huge bows and bells to find a colorful box, opening it, rummaging through the tissue paper and finding it actually contains . . . nothing. All the good style in the world won't save a fic without a good core. So I'll say A) is worse.
