questionaire
Aug. 6th, 2011 09:38 pm"The Proust Questionnaire has its origins in a parlor game popularized by Marcel Proust, the French essayist and novelist, who believed that, in answering these questions, an individual reveals his or her true nature."
Okay, here we go :
Name?
I've named myself Ray. It's a masculine/androgynous shortening of the name my parents gave me, and connotes Raygun and Ray of Light.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Knowing that despite anything that may happen to you, you have done your best in all circumstances.
What is your greatest fear?
Imminent doom with an out, but not being able to take that out.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
William S. Burroughs. He was an unashamed queer who fit in only with the lowest, weirdest parts of queer culture; he dabbled in black magic because he was desperate in love, and created a career on his drugged-out, perverse imaginings.
Which living person do you most admire?
Quentin Tarantino, for creating movies that both glory in and ironically comment on the things he loves most.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
My self-centeredness.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
"Willful ignorance" is a good one.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Spending too much money on entertaining or feeding my friends, not enough on savings.
What is your favorite journey?
Rediscovering a place you think you know already.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Temperance for the sake of temperance.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Creating a circle of friends I can rely on.
On what occasion do you lie?
If I'm too bored or annoyed to tell the truth.
What do you dislike most about your appearance?
My arms. They are getting stronger but still have skinflaps.
Which living person do you most despise?
I blame the men who wrote the Left Behind books for a great deal of the cultural issues plaguing our society at this moment.
Who or what is the greatest love of your life?
drworm. Loving him in any capacity gives my life an emotional center, no matter who else I love.
When and where were you happiest?
This year. I've found good, true friends, and I've somehow become able to weather emotional turmoil far better than I ever have.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I'd like to be able to draw the things I imagine.
What is your current state of mind?
Anxious and restless, but overall serene.
What is it that you most dislike?
Not knowing how things will turn out.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
The social anxiety.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Not merely despising yourself, but believing that your consciousness itself--not the reality with which you are presented, but the fact of your existence as a thinking being--is merely an illusion.
What is your favorite occupation?
Writing like you're trying to solve a puzzle.
What is your most marked characteristic?
I've been told I'm "cheerful." It must be the voice, the hair, and the tendency to make cute remarks when overwhelmed.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Being self-confident enough to have respect for others.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Being self-confident enough to have respect for others.
What do you most value in your friends?
The ability to carry on a decent conversation, and the willingness to be honest and direct.
Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
The Bride from "Kill Bill," and Shoshana Dreyfus from "Inglourious Basterds." Genuinely strong women who would not accept their fate as victims, and did not merely perservere but actively kicked ass.
Who are your heroes in real life?
I have too many to count. They tend to be artists and nonconformists with complex, sometimes incomprehensible visions, often famous for their intense introspection.
How would you like to die?
Without knowing it's going to happen.
What is your motto?
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." --Weisserman family motto
