kleenexwoman: A caricature of me looking future-y. (Fight the eye!)
nobody is online tonight get online you guys :( Oh wait, it is Saturday night and I have spent the evening sleeping like a loser with an upper respiratory sickness while everyone else is out playing D&D or going to parties or whatever.

I applied for a job writing horror stories for...some TV thing. I can write on spec. It's all good. And for some other jobs, because I've gotten sick twice in this month and I blame it on the job I have now. And my mom wants me to apply to the Detroit Daily Press, which is a new newspaper that was founded as a response to the current Detroit newspapers agreeing to deliver and publish only like half of the week, but they stopped delivering because of no funds on Thursday and they aren't going to start up again until New Years', sooo I might just call them first and be like, "Hey, any job openings?" instead of going to the trouble of sending them a bunch of writing samples if they can't afford to pay me.

I'm also going to see if I can register for a screenwriting class at OCC like I keep meaning to. Mom said she'd help me with the costs if I did--she's very supportive. And I've been applying for other places because I need a new job that will pay me more and give me more hours :( The one I have now was only ever meant to be part-time on the part of the workers, and I can just about keep on top of things right now from it, but that's really only because Dad is helping me out with the bills, and he said he's going to start throwing more of them my way soon. If he does, I won't be able to pay them with what I've got going on now, and I don't want to be in that position again.

If I don't get any responses by the time I get better, I'm going to see whether I can't go and model myself at the College for Creative Studies or something. I hear they pay top dollar for naked people with bodies that are fun to draw.

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

1. First Name
Rachel. It's one of the most common names for Jewish girls ever and was an extremely common name for girls in general when I was growing up. My grade school classrooms each had at least two more Rachels, and my Hebrew school class was full of Rachels. Rachel Rachel Rachel. I'm seriously considering having people call me "Ray" just to differentiate myself.

2. Age
23. It's kind of a dull age. I'm not a quarter-century old yet, but I'm also not an interesting and potential-filled person in my earliest 20's. I'm just starting to grow up and it's not as interesting as I thought it would be, but I can take comfort in the idea that this is just a transitional period and I'll uncover something more interesting soon.

3. Location
Farmington, Michigan. It's a very charming little town near Detroit, and it's full of families and absolutely nobody my age. I don't mind this in the summer, but winter is approaching and I want some friends in the area.

4. Occupation
I work for Morpace Incorporated, a market research company, through a temp agency. My job is calling people and asking them their opinions on things. People, if you ever get somebody calling you for a survey, please be nice and if you're not interested just say so. Hanging up isn't nice and saying "Now is not a good time" will make us call you back until you give in.

5. Partner
[livejournal.com profile] drworm is my partner in most of the things that are important. The thing that sucks is that he's about 200 miles away, but we're trying to work around that. It could be worse. Anyway, he's sweet, smart, funny, dorky, weird in a lot of the same ways I am, and is a very talented person. That's why I like him.

6. Kids
I don't know, man. I have a lot of people telling me I'd be a good mom, but then my actual mom is like, "Never have kids, being a mother would not suit you." I used to be vehemently opposed to the idea of having children, but now it's more about the fact that I just don't want to have to do all that work.

7. Siblings
My little brother Brian is three years minus one month younger than me, and he's a really cool kid with his own unique perspective on the world. He has insane friends, a house in Detroit, and plays in several punk bands. He's a Civil War buff, owns a puppy called Mischief, and his latest project is a band called Blackface which plays black supremacist songs. ...yeah. We'll see how that goes, I guess!

8. Pets
None at the moment, since my apartment complex technically does not allow them and my dad definitely does not allow them. I did live with two cats named Spike and Giles for a while, and [livejournal.com profile] drworm and I recently found a cat called Jules, but I could not bring Jules home with me. I hope someday to have my own cats, and maybe some chickens out in the backyard.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life.
a) Working at Morpace, hoping to earn enough money to finance a week's vacation with [livejournal.com profile] drworm sometime in January.
b) The script adaptation of "Partners in Time," a novel by [livejournal.com profile] foxywriter, adapted by me and [livejournal.com profile] anivad. There is an actual studio which is interested in this.
c) Pretty excited about Down the Chimney and Yuletide fanfic exchanges, NGL.
d) I'm sick and that's taking up a lot of my time and energy. Urgh.

10. Parents
My dad works for Sam Bernstein as an ambulance-chasing personal injury lawyer. He went to Henry Ford High School, a school in the middle of Detroit in the 1970s, and he had the biggest 'fro there. He is a Tigers fan. My mom works as a fourth-grade teacher and is getting a little burned out on it. She used to be part of a dance squad who went around to Detroit discos in the 1970s and taught people how to dance "Le Freak." She likes to sew.

11. Some of your closest friends are:
You know who you are.
