Nov. 2nd, 2005 05:33 pmSo. Techies finally called. Computer is OK. Keyboard needs to be replaced. It will cost $$$. That is OK in itself, but it will take a few days and those few days are a few days that I am not writing my novel. WHY did I have to spill pop on my keyboard right before when I'm supposed to be using it the most? This. Just. Sucks. I will have to double up on writey once I get the thing back, because everyone is going "Ooh, lookit my counter I have like 3,000 words already" and I'm like, "OH GOD I SUCK."
I separate things I write into two categories: Notebook stories, and computer stories. Notebook stories are written on the beach or in the Kaya cuddled up next to a cup of chai, penned in ink and blood and sweat and coffee fumes in my careful, elaborate handwriting, and only later transcribed onto pixels. Computer stories are banged out on the keyboard at breakneck pace while I wear a fedora and chain-smoke like Spider Jerusalem. This novel is a computer story. I'd hurt my hands if I wrote it on paper. I did try to write out a little of it yesterday, but it just wouldn't come. Please, computer guy, please please please give me back my laptop...
In the meantime, I'm going to go over the beginning in my head and try to work out the plot knots so that it feels like I'm doing something useful. Grrr...
Happy stuff? Well, I watched "High School, USA" last night. SO DAMN CUTE. Slightly retarded Crispin in overalls. One gets the feeling that "play this character as actually being retarded" was not in the script, but it works so well, with his thick-tongued delivery and general cluelessness and trying to hit on girls in an extremely incompetent way.
Michael J. Fox looked exactly like a 12-year-old girl. This isn't a bad thing, he just did.
Ah-hah, here's interestingness:
Best possible couples,
ithurtsmybrain list:
Santa Claus/Bruce Campbell
It's going to be a good year, I can tell.
Philip J. Fry (Futurama)/Cosmo (The Fairly Oddparents)
This actually could work. They would get along very, very well.
Zaphod Beeblebrox (HHGttG)/Ted (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure)
and
Ted (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure)/Ford Prefect (HHGttG)
Ted sure gets around.
Biff Tannen (Back to the Future)/Zaphod Beeblebrox (HHGttG)
Man, that Zaphod sure gets around. (Did I ever tell you about the George McFly/Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged idea I had?)
R2D2 (Star Wars)/Marvin the Paranoid Android (HHGttG, BBC miniseries)
This actually seems kind of reasonble...does R2D2 have a personality? Would Marvin depress him?
Susan Sto Helit (Discworld)/Fozzy Bear (Muppets)
Why can I totally see this?
Spider Jerusalem (Transmetropolitan)/Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report)
YES.
Socrates (Willard, 2003 movie)/Vic Sage, The Question (DC)
There's no real reason, but I do want to think of a justification for this.
Danny Elfman (RPS)/Sabriel (Sabriel)
It's been a while since I read the Sabriel books...I am sure I could think of some way to justify this. Like, an alternate universe where...oh, fuck it, I'm not writing Sabriel fanfiction.
