Blast, no snails? I was hoping for snails.

So you're saying the real world is a "terrible" place, veiled by a thin illusion (a "matrix") that keeps us stable by giving our minds the logic and order they crave while slowly weaning us from it and acclimating us to chaos? That's very Matrix-esque. It brings to mind the journeys from one layer of reality to another, and the Oracle's explanation of rogue programs manifesting themselves as ghosts.

You got my gears turning. It's really a beautiful myth. I like it. Especially this part: A glitch or a flaw is not wrong, but merely different, a kind of experiment thrown up by chaos for no reason other than that it can be; it may be a dead end, but it may also even lead to a new ideal, more beautiful or stronger in turn than what it displaced. I am fascinated with mutation, evolution and quirky beauty. But I must point out- if the universe is indifferent to such human ideas (“A man said to the universe: 'Sir, I exist! 'However,' replied the universe, 'The fact has not created in me a sense of obligation.'") then why does the illusionistic world exist in the first place? If the world doesn't give a crap what our minds think of it, then why lie to us at all? Why cater to our feeble human brains and humor us? How would such an illusion have developed, if we were born into a world of chaos? Did we create it ourselves? Or are we deluding ourselves and seeing only what we want to see, in effect creating our own reality because we are in denial, and only people who have "awakened" somewhat manage to sporadically see the ghosties and weird things? Would that explain sightings of the paranormal, like the Matrix's mischief-making programs?

You should develop this myth/worldview further. It would make a kickass story.
