I think that might be it! I have noticed that whenever I get intellectually excited, I forget about eating for a while.
I don't look behind me in class that much; what's going on at the front is usually too important. I did look around once in Journalism to ascertain that I was really the only person raising their hand and that the professor wasn't just ignoring everyone else.
