I took a walk and took some pictures.
The entrance to the complex.

The music shop, right next door. I saw a huge guy in a leather jacket playing the violin in the back room last night.

The stopped clock: Right twice a day.

They have little concerts here in the spring and summer.

It was warm and rainy; the snow melted, leaving dead vegetation and slime everywhere.

I didn't get the job at Dress Barn :(

The sad little park in the middle of the strip mall.

The town is full of these lovely old homes that have been turned into businesses.

And churches.

Assloads of churches.

And they're all historical!

The historical intersection today.

The valley nearby.

There are also a lot of funeral homes.

And a Masonic Temple.

Complete with mysterious symbols!

There's a nice little green with a veterans' memorial.

And one with a memorial to a city manager.

History!

Another green.

With some nifty houses and fog.

THESE ARE SO CUTE OMG

A view of downtown from the green.

I stopped at this house and took some pictures just as some lady was letting her dog, Merlot, out to pee.

More houses!

This one reminded me of a hobbit hole for some reason.

I love the monogrammed chimney.

From the more raffish area of town. I just love the huge arch of branches on the porch.

Lookit that big fuckoff brass spire on that porch. Fuck yeah.

Downtown!

This mall is filled with shops I would never go into.

The barbershop.

The beauty salon down the street.

The cheap-o movie theater! The quality of the films is not great, but it's atmospheric and pretty and has a little museum inside.

This place closes at 1 PM most days. I've never been inside. They also have a little sign up about how they hope more people will visit them now that they've changed their name.

The most awesome bead shop in the world.

Date: 2009-02-11 11:35 pm (UTC)The thing I love most about it is that it's just this little oasis of smalltownishness in the middle of the suburbs, so I can hop down to Ferndale or Detroit or somewhere if it gets too boring. It's not isolated at all.

Date: 2009-02-13 01:38 am (UTC)I will have to explore the valley a little and take some more pictures. There's a little bit of it in back of my complex that I want to play in.
