Why don't you guys live in Detroit? Is it the crime rate? We can do something about that.
Actually it's the USA's increasingly uptight stance, at home and abroad, which puts me off. Seriously. I am scared to live in the States because I don't trust the authorities (by which I mean A. the government, and B. big business) not to abuse my rights (to life, liberty and the discovery of happiness in the here and now) worse than, say, here in NZ, or in much of western europe, and also I fear reprisals for American aggression overseas. I also don't trust the electoral system which seems rigged to maintan the entrenched interests.
Judging by information I have absorbed, even the election of one of the leading 'Democrat' candidates as President is not likely to change that significantly.
All of which is a pity.. because I would absolutely love to live in a place like you describe provided that the loudness was optional.
