kleenexwoman: A caricature of me looking future-y. (Robots are love.)
Broke through a writer's block tonight. [livejournal.com profile] spacematchbook is going in fits and starts. Wanted to start on "I've Seen That Movie Too" (meta-thing with Crispin & Michael & George & Marty, in a "Hill Valley of the mind" kind of thing--if you've read Divine Rehabilitation, this is a very similar concept). However, it just didn't get started...
Part of it is because I get nervous jumping into new fics. It's like falling off a cliff. Part of it is because I'm worried about the characterization; writing real people can be much harder than writing fictional characters, because, well...they actually exist. You can't make up backstory and motivations for them that they don't have. Or, rather, you can, but it's 1000% more fictional than that of fanon for fictional characters.
Some people can do this well--[livejournal.com profile] ghostgecko did in his lovely stories about Crispin. Go read these--you'll be glad you did. I can't think of any other RPS writers I swoon over that way.
Actually, the only RPS I habitually read that has any substantial fandom is Danny/Tim (particularly [livejournal.com profile] nilchance's stuff)--but I actually sometimes forget that Danny and Tim are real people. Weird, that. I mean, 'cause they've only directed movies and written songs I love, y'know? BUT I HAVEN'T MET THEM IN REAL LIFE and therefore I don't know that they exist. (By this logic, I don't know that most of y'all exist. But I take this on faith. It would suck if you turned out to be figments of my imagination. Particularly [livejournal.com profile] ghostgecko. How can a figment of your imagination be so much smarter than you? 'cause, fuck, he comes up with the most amazing ideas. Applying Jungian theory to the Pendergast books. Seriously, if he doesn't post that one at least to his LJ so everyone else can see, I will be disappointed, 'cause it's brilliant and makes so much sense.)

I haven't gotten much done. I slept for 14 hours today, or rather 10 hours with sleep paralysis for the last 4. (I lay on the bunk with my eyes open, not moving, and my roommate came in and asked me something, and I couldn't answer her because I was paralyzed. So she got huffy and slammed the door. This failed to knock me out of my trance.)
I did have some weird dreams. Most of them were either somewhat disturbing or just tedious, but I did enjoy the one about building a civilization in abandoned freeways. That was great, we got to go around in bicycle gangs and live off the land (ie eat chunks of asphalt, since apparently we'd evolved to be able to digest cement and stone).

Anyway, since I haven't gotten much done, there's not much to do. Instead, I'll continue to pimp out things.

READ: [livejournal.com profile] diraskyria's Serpent In A Cage NaNo novel. It starts there, and goes for about 30 chapters at last count. (They're short, don't worry.) It's a rough draft, keep in mind, but still very good; the characters are interesting and terribly fun to read about, and Aryneth itself is a complex, well-realized world.

LISTEN: [livejournal.com profile] he_dreams_awake's Internet radio station. He tends to play a lot of nu-metal-techno, Evanescence, and odd comedy songs--not exactly my usual playlist, but an interesting mix. He also likes to rant about Society, Freedom, Choice, Destiny, & other lofty (& often spiritual) topics. Thought-provoking if you're into that sort of thing.

WATCH: [livejournal.com profile] dr_ninjapants's Re-Animator song videos. I love these. They're fucking awesome. Actually, I probably don't even need to pimp these, because everyone on my friendslist who likes Re-Animator should have seen these by now. Just in case, tho.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] wankhaus (brother Brian's new name for whatever reason) kindly sent me a pic I did at Mom's house. I didn't draw this myself, naturally, just kind of edited out the background to include what I thought was the most important part. I can't remember where I got the original. Sigh.
